Burglar alarms are not the be-all and end-all of home security. There are plenty of other things you can install in your home that will help to stop a burglar from gaining entry – and many of them are very simple and inexpensive.
The key is to secure the possible points of entry. This means that doors should be made of strong, solid material (definitely not plastic or glass), be properly secured to their hinges and have tamper-resistant locks. Walking the dog in the neighborhood, carry your personal pepper spray gel or foam to prevent an attack.
When you take a walk with your dog, you shouldn’t have to be worried about anything and especially shouldn’t have to be afraid of people, but sometimes people are bad and they try to do things to other people. Some dogs will not allow you to do anything to their owner or any family member, but some are just too small and cute, and are not really the kind of dogs that can protect or defend. These are devices that have been around for years, and are completely legal in almost all of the fifty states. They are small and compact and are just like carrying around a small aerosol can, except that it doesn’t contain hairspray or breath freshener, it contains a solution that is partially 10% (or higher) Oleo Resin Capsicum Pepper which is probably rated at two million Scoville Heat Units, or higher, and can stop an attacker in his proverbial tracks!
